Flat Deck Trailer Buying Guide
Flat deck trailers are great for transporting bulky, heavy objects that cannot be easily broken down into parts. This is because their designs allow for better weight distribution when compared to most other trailer types. If you’re interested in finding the right flat deck trailer for you, this guide from Paradise Recreation has some helpful tips.
Weight Requirements
When buying a trailer, flat deck or otherwise, weight requirements should be at the forefront of your mind. Besides just making sure that the trailer can handle the weight of whatever you plan to use it to haul, you also need to make sure that your tow vehicle is powerful enough to handle the weight of the trailer. If you purchase a flat deck trailer that’s too heavy, you might not be able to haul as much weight as you’d prefer.
Hitch Styles
There are many different types of hitches, but most flat deck trailers use either a bumper-pull hitch or a gooseneck hitch. Bumper-pull hitches stick out behind the tow vehicle, which creates a gap between the trailer and the vehicle. This style is compatible with a wide variety of different tow vehicles, making it very popular. Gooseneck hitches provide a very smooth towing experience, but are only able to be towed by vehicles that have a bed (pickup trucks). This limitation can make finding a towing vehicle more difficult.
