Dump Trailer Maintenance Tips
Dump trailers are unique among trailers in that they are outfitted with hydraulic hoists. While these hoists are helpful for quickly and easily dumping the trailer’s load, they also make dump trailers a bit more complex than your average trailer, opening up the possibility that something will malfunction. Luckily, this guide from the experts at Paradise Recreation can help you better maintain your dump trailer.
Owner’s Manual
We highly recommend consulting your owner’s manual when it comes to maintaining your dump trailer. It will contain specific information related to your model, as well as provide a guideline about how often maintenance should be performed.
The Battery
Dump trailers are one of the few trailer types that have their own batteries. As you might expect, dump trailer batteries require regular maintenance in order to continue functioning. Do what you can to keep your dump trailer’s battery charged, and be sure to follow proper battery storage procedures.
The Tires
A tire blowout is dangerous, no matter what kind of trailer you are hauling. Regularly check that your dump trailer’s tires are still in good condition, and occasionally measure the tire pressure. An underinflated or overinflated tire is much more likely to become damaged. Also, be on the lookout for uneven or excessive tread wear.
The Hydraulics System
Finally, it’s important that you take proper care of your dump trailer’s hydraulics system. If the dump trailer’s bed becomes stuck in the up position, inspect the pump. The pump will be the part with a square-shaped coil and a round-shaped coil. Slightly loosen the bolts on both coils. Bear in mind that this is only a temporary fix to allow you to get the trailer to an expert who can inspect it. Do not attempt to utilize your dump trailer with the bolts on the coils still loosened.
